Homemade granola for slow mornings

I love to have a quiet morning before work, enjoying breakfast with as little effort as possible. This simple homemade granola for every day is a perfect way to enjoy the most important meal of the day. Homemade food just tastes so much better. And especially when we get to choose what ingredients to put in and what to leave out.

if you’re like me and enjoy having a slow morning with a tasty breakfast, you have to try this recipe. My husband loves this granola. It doesn’t take hours to prepare and the best thing of all, you can change things around when you feel like it. I love to have my granola with cashew nuts and goji berries, but if you don’t you can choose to optimise the ingredients according to your taste buds!

Why make your own Granola?

Who doesn’t love homemade food? Most of the time it turns out so much better than store-bought. And when we’ve put our energy and love to produce food, it gives a whole other meaning to it. It changes the way we think about food. Also, this granola is a great budget-friendly breakfast option. you can make so much granola with the same amount of money as you would pay for one box of store-bought.

As I mentioned already above, the greatest benefit of everything, especially to our health is that you know what’s inside. Many store-bought products contain so many ingredients that I even don’t know what they all are.

What to add to the Granola

With homemade granola you can be so creative, there are so many ingredients to choose from. My favourite is Nutty granola, seasoned with cinnamon and seeds.

From nuts, you can really use any nuts you prefer, like almonds, cashews, and hazelnuts. Keep in mind, some nuts are more expensive than others. So to keep the cost of the granola lower choose nuts that are cheaper.

Also, add different seeds. Sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds are fairly cheap I would say. Therefore add those into your granola to make sure you have plenty of fats in it. Other options can be chia seeds or hemp seeds.

If you want to make a little fancier mix, you can use freeze-dried fruits to make it fruity granola, with some coconut flakes. This also gives a little colour to your homemade granola which can help your breakfast look more beautiful and more enjoyable.

Last I love little sweetness in my granola. To make this, I use raisins or goji berries.

Crunchy self-made granola

There are all kinds of tastes and if you prefer crunchy granola, here is how to add a little more crunch to it. You can add maple syrup to the oats before baking them, so the oats will stick to each other. This way when the granola comes out of the oven, it has those tasty sweet little crunchy bits. I’m trying to avoid sweetness as much as possible, to keep my blood sugar more balanced. However, if you don’t mind a little sweetness, this is definitely something you should try!
